An open book, snowflakes, ice cracking on the surface of a lake鈥hese are just a few of the ways that the glass fa莽ade of the Calgary Central Library (CCL) has been described.
Over 200,000 square feet of Vitro Architectural Glass products were needed to outfit the bespoke curved exterior with an alternating pattern of clear, glazed and ceramic-fritted glass. Three different types of triple-pane IGUs were fabricated, each featuring a single lite of Starphire Ultra-Clear庐 glass sandwiched between individual panes of Solarban庐 72 and Solarban庐 60 glasses to diffuse light inside while preserving the stunning views outside.
The CCL went on to win the 2020 AIA Architecture Award and is now fulfilling its mission to serve as a welcoming community center for the city of Calgary.
