AMBERGER GLAS GmbH & Co. KG is enhancing insulating glass quality assurance with advanced inline inspection technology from Softsolution, improving precision, traceability, and process reliability.

AMBERGER GLAS GmbH & Co. KG has stood for the highest quality in glass processing and continuous process reliability for years. In order to continue meeting this standard in the future and to address increasing market demands in terms of precision, traceability, and efficiency, the company has made targeted investments in innovative inspection technology鈥攚ith great success.

At the center of this advancement is the use of a modern LineScanner from Softsolution, which is deployed directly after the press to inspect finished insulating glass units.

This solution enables fully automated and comprehensive real-time inspection of each individual glass element, forming a central component of quality assurance.
Thanks to direct inline integration, potential defects can be detected at an early stage and rejected units can be immediately identified before they proceed to further processing steps. This not only reduces rework and scrap, but also sustainably increases process stability. At the same time, the digital recording of all inspection data ensures complete documentation and provides the basis for transparent analyses and continuous optimization across the entire production process.

Holistic Inline Quality Control of Insulating Glass Units

The LineScanner performs a comprehensive inspection of finished insulating glass units to ensure consistently high quality. It checks glass surfaces and coatings for defects such as inclusions, scratches, and damage. In addition, the system verifies correct frame positioning, muntin alignment, and layout to ensure dimensional accuracy and visual precision.

Particular focus is placed on detecting butyl defects in the edge area, as these can affect the sealing performance and durability of the insulating glass unit. Since butyl forms the first protective barrier in the sealing system, even minor defects can directly impact energy efficiency and longevity. With the help of the LineScanner, the entire insulating glass structure鈥攊ncluding glass thicknesses and spacers鈥攊s inspected in detail.

Reporting & Traceability as Key Factors for Reliable Complaint Handling

A central aspect is the creation of a comprehensive final report for customers that includes all insulating glass units (IGUs), enabling full traceability. This is particularly important for efficient complaint handling. For this purpose, integration with a centralized data archive is essential, where all inspection results are permanently stored and available for evaluations, analyses, and optimizations.

This combination of precise inline inspection and digital data capture not only ensures maximum transparency but also significantly enhances product quality.

Quote from Tobias Kerscher (Operations Manager):

鈥淔rom the initial discussions and planning through to final commissioning, we were completely satisfied at all times and can highly recommend Softsolution as a partner. With the new LineScanner, we are able to take the quality assurance of our insulating glass to an entirely new level, while ensuring that our customers receive an even higher quality standard than before. Ultimately, we as a company also benefit by significantly reducing our complaint rate, as potentially defective glass can be filtered out in advance.

Feels like manufacturing is quietly going through its own 鈥渞eal-time era鈥 moment. When every glass panel is inspected inline and every defect becomes data, quality stops being checked at the end and starts being built into the process itself.
