With so much going on at the recent GlassBuild America trade show it can be challenging for single subject to rise above the rest. However in 2019, one subject did catch a massive amount of attention and that was the growth and availability of Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG). The product had significant mentions during “The Battle for the Wall” panel presentation during the Glazing Executives Forum event at GlassBuild and the momentum carried on to the exhibit floor where one booth in particular had significant traffic to learn more about how this truly high performance product is doing.

VIG Technologies, proudly serving as the exclusive North American distributor for the LandVac® division of Luoyang Landglass Technologies Co., Ltd. positioned itself in the center of the busy and bustling IGE Pavilion and attendees from all over the globe were stopping in to see active demonstrations on how this version of VIG is a difference maker.

One of the main points that really stuck with the visitors was that LandVac features Tempered Vacuum Insulated Glass AND it is SGCC certified. The reason that matters is by adopting low temperature sealing technology, LandVac effectively avoids stress decay caused by glass annealing during the high temperature sealing process. The surface compressive stress of LandVac at any spot exceeds 90MPa. This makes LandVac the fully tempered vacuum insulating glass that meets safety glass standards without laminating.

In addition LandVac’s thin structure (now becoming more requested in the age of the “thin triple”) super long life, ultimate dewpoint, and noise reduction qualities had visitors impressed. Of course it was the energy performance though that really made jaws drop. 

Thanks to the high vacuum chamber of LandVac, which effectively blocks the thermal transmission, the thermal insulation performance of LandVac is 2-4 times better than insulated glass and 6-10 times better than single pane glass.

The properties of this product meet all international thermal transmittance requirements on windows and doors for passive houses. With major code changes on the horizon, being able to meet the new parameters without having to go to addition lites or airspaces is a huge advantage.
