British Glass, the representative body for the UK glass industry, has received recognition for its commitment to its workforce by winning an award at the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards.

The Sheffield based company collected the Workplace Wellbeing award and was also a finalist in the Commitment to People award at the ceremony held at Magna in Rotherham on Friday night (18 October).

The Workplace Wellbeing award 鈥榬ecognises businesses that are creating an environment for their employees to succeed by demonstrating their commitment to the health and wellbeing of their workforce.鈥

On winning the award, judges commented:

鈥淏ritish Glass have a huge focus on the wellbeing of their staff, with 95% feeling valued by their line manager and 88% would recommend the organisation as a good place to work.

鈥淥ver a third of their workforce are trained in mental health first aid and they are very active on assessing health needs through biannual health checks and annual state of mind surveys to ensure they are measuring their workplace wellbeing.鈥

British Glass has repeatedly put employee鈥檚 health and wellbeing at the forefront of the business through staff benefits, reward and recognition and themed activities for staff including internal awards for staff, taking part in national themed weeks such as health and hydration week, and a renewed focus on mental health.

The purpose of the reward and recognition strategy is to create a working culture where staff are valued for their work and their contribution is recognised, while the health, wellbeing and work strategy ensures employees are both happy and healthy to encourage productivity and performance.

Results of both strategies are then measured in a companywide State of Mind survey, which has also been repeated for 2019.

CEO of British Glass, Dave Dalton said:

鈥淲e have worked hard over the past two years to develop a wellbeing programme to help our staff be happy and healthy in the workplace, as well as feel valued and engaged to do the best job they can.

鈥淲e are thrilled to win this award which not only recognises the work that has gone into designing the programme, but also helps us to continue to strengthen and show our commitment to our current and future employees.鈥

British Glass was also one of the finalists for the Commitment to People award, which was won by energy and services company Engie.

Hosted by the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, the awards are designed to reward excellence in the region, celebrate local success and raise the profile of business in the region.
