Eastman鈥檚 premium PVB interlayers designed to reduce embodied carbon of laminated glass

Eastman is excited to introduce Saflex LiteCarbon Clear, the latest innovation in polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayers, now available in Europe. Developed to address the growing need for low-embodied-carbon building materials, LiteCarbon Clear offers a solution that reduces the carbon footprint of laminated glass while maintaining safety and aesthetic qualities critical for glazing.

With a carbon footprint of only 2.4 kg CO鈧 eq/sqm, this first-generation interlayer reduces emissions by 33% compared to conventional Saflex Clear PVB interlayer. Its upcoming EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) verification by International EPD庐 System will ensure credibility and trust within the industry.

鈥淪aflex LiteCarbon Clear provides our customers with the ability to reduce the carbon footprint of their laminated glass, maintaining performance and quality without altering their existing processes,鈥 added Oliver Osborne, commercial director of architecture for advanced materials, interlayers at Eastman. 鈥淚n addition, this premium interlayer supports our customer鈥 Scope 3 emissions reduction goals, contributing to a more sustainable supply chain."

This lower-carbon PVB interlayer also allows architects and engineers to achieve their project鈥檚 embodied carbon goals and contributes to green building certifications such as LEED and BREEAM.

鈥淪aflex LiteCarbon Clear is the result of a holistic approach to sustainability,鈥 said Peter Roose, Eastman鈥檚 director of EMEA technology and interlayers sustainability. 鈥淭hrough dedicated efforts in pre-consumer recycled content, energy efficiency and collaboration with suppliers, we鈥檙e able to deliver a product that not only meets industry safety standards but also supports transformative action toward a more sustainable future.鈥

Saflex LiteCarbon Clear is in line with Eastman鈥檚 broader sustainability goals, representing its ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable solutions for the industry.
