����ר�� for Europe answered today to the public consultation on a draft Delegated Regulation relating to the EU’s “Taxonomy Regulation”. The Delegated Regulation specifies the Screening Criteria to defines an economic activity as “sustainable” in the context of the Taxonomy Regulation.

The Taxonomy Regulation is expected to bring markets towards a more environmentally sustainable model. The European flat glass sector takes it as its role to produce the materials essential for conducting energy-efficient renovations of buildings, for supporting clean mobility with lighter and thermally efficient automotive glazing, and for increasing the share of renewable solar energy in Europe. Considering that these above usages represent over 99% of flat glass production, ����ר�� for Europe considers that its manufacturing activities should be covered under the taxonomy with adequate technical screening criteria.

In its answer to the public consultation, Glass for Europe asked

• To introduce NACE code C23.12 under section 3.4 to ensure that IGUs (Insulated Glazing Units), which are an essential component if high-performance windows, are also covered.
• To modify the technical Screening Criteria for windows accordingly to ensure that glazing can massively contribute to the decarbonisation of the EU buildings
• To engage, in a future work on taxonomy, in defining technical screening criteria for automotive glazing (i.e. C23.11 and C23.12), which are essential components of low carbon transport.
