Wellington Convention Center is located in the center of capital of New Zealand, covering an area of 18,000 square meters. It is a large-scale infrastructure construction in Wellington in the past 20 years. Tianjin NorthGlass has created a super-thick curtain wall glass with polymer material net for the whole project.

The center is named Takina, meaning “call”, and implying a place to communicate and think. Known as the “capital of the wind”, Wellington is known for its diverse winds. Wellington Bay has a strange undulating landscape, from which designers draw inspiration to imitate Wellington’s unique terrain to depict organic and dynamic architectural features. In order to fit this form, Tianjin NorthGlass has created an innovative glass process, presenting a gorgeous form for this new landmark of Wellington.

Building side of 1300 square meters of clip glass is curved glass, its size is from 0.5 meters to 5 meters. Due to the different size and special requirements for the edge, especially the edge for arc glass, it presents a high challenge to polymer network cutting and positioning, Tianjin NorthGlass need to test different sizes of polymer network expansion change to accurately control the network edge to the glass edge distance accuracy within 1.5mm.

The whole building is covered under the soft flowing glass skin, and the bronzed metal layer on the polymer network makes the Wellington Convention Center shine under the appearance of the flowing sense, and the whole curtain wall brings wonderful visual changes according to different lighting conditions.

With over 10,000 square meters of flexible conference and exhibition space, Wellington Convention Center uses new technologies to show the region's amazing contemporary design and cultural culture, creates a space for a comprehensive exchange of professional knowledge and thought leadership.

As a typical example of sustainable buildings in New Zealand, Wellington Convention Centre receives a five-star New Zealand Greenstar rating, and the building curtain wall system includes sustainable functions and adaptive systems, with a 60-70% reduction in carbon emissions and energy use compared to similar buildings.
