The 258-room hotel, an existing structure which has been refashioned into a distinctly boutique building, is just a few minutes’ walk from Brick Lane, near a conservation area which, over the centuries, has featured grain warehouses and industrial buildings.

It was the local metalwork tradition that led to the appointment of Essex-based manufacturer, Crittall Windows. With more than 160 years' experience in crafting metal windows, Crittall Windows was asked to furnish a number of the building components. This included W20 fixed lights, cold formed entrance doors to the ground floor entrance and lobby area and also internal partitioning screens that divide the lobby space from the hotel bar and restaurant. There is also a florist on site.

Crittall installed the lobby screens from its W20 range, glazed with half height insulated panels and textured Georgian wired glass. The company also supplied screens that were used to clad the existing structural columns to maintain the theme of the internal glazing.

The florist is indicative of the hotel’s design ethos; the choice of fenestration also means a traditional steel framed system that references the articulation of traditional shopfronts in the surrounding area. The full height screens in the lobby create a number of room-like, furnished zones where people can meet, chat or do business.
