Kuraray, in coordination with FENEX, is hosting an AIA-approved webinar exploring the science and engineering behind flood-resistant laminated glass systems.

Architects and building professionals are invited to deepen their understanding of flood-resilient glazing design in an upcoming AIA-approved webinar, The Science Behind Flood-Resistant Glass, taking place on March 19 at 11:30 AM EST.

Organised by Kuraray in coordination with FENEX, this 90-minute technical session (2.0 HSW credits) will examine how laminated glass systems can be engineered and specified to perform as effective flood-control solutions amid rising extreme weather risks.

Flooding remains one of the most costly and disruptive natural hazards affecting buildings today. As climate challenges intensify, façade consultants, developers and contractors must carefully consider how glazing systems contribute to resilient, high-performance design.

The webinar features two expert-led sessions:

Session 1: Flood Control Using Laminated Safety Glass
Allan Gibson will explore how laminated glass functions as a flood-mitigation element, covering interlayer selection, hydrostatic pressure performance, debris resistance, anchorage, deflection and post-breakage retention.

Session 2: Flood-Resilient Design in Architecture
Hector Luis Noguera Montilla will present dry floodproofing strategies and demonstrate how flood-resistant glazing systems are tested, integrated and properly specified within architectural projects.

Attendees will gain practical insights through real-world case studies, including NYU Langone, the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, and international projects. The program will also address system testing requirements, permanent flood defense strategies and specification best practices.

Learning objectives include:

  • Understanding how flood risks translate into building performance requirements
  • Exploring how laminated glass and advanced interlayers enhance flood resilience
  • Identifying when and how to specify dry floodproofing
  • Reviewing key engineering and structural considerations for flood-resistant glazing

The webinar will run for 90 minutes and offers 2.0 HSW credits.
