Cherry Orchard in Marlborough, a former NHS-run residential care home, was converted by Jones Building Group into eight two-bedroom and two one-bedroom apartments, earlier this year.

The conversion of the building, which was originally constructed in the 1950s, includes the installation of 112 windows and doors in aluplast’s Ideal 70 system.

Supplied by new build specialist D Glass in anthracite grey-on-white, this has included the defining ‘ground to second-floor’ top-hung openers, which are connected via a specially designed anthracite grey ceramic and BM Trada approved F60 fire-glass and fire stop detail, between floors.

Ian Cocken, Director of Sales and Marketing, aluplast, said: “This is a very innovative installation in a carefully considered design, which has elevated a very unassuming post-war build into a contemporary residential development.

“Combined with a white render over original brickwork, the conversion has been defined by its use of foils, supplied by us through D Glass, in anthracite grey.

“This has been put to stunning effect on top-hung windows on ground and first floors, which connected with a fire resistant ceramic, create the impression of a continuous installation across floors.”

The site also includes three new build two-bedroom homes, this time fitted with  white windows in a classical ovolo finish, set against brick work and a traditional flint cobble finish. Supplied with standard 28mm units, the windows achieved WER A+ rating.

aluplast’s slim line and German-engineered Ideal 70 system, is available in an extensive choice of finishes including dual colour options. With a choice of 24mm to optimum 40mm triple glazed options, it also easily achieves a WER A+ rating with standard components and A++ with specific profiles and IGUs.

It’s part of a comprehensive offering from the German systems house, which has invested heavily in its colour and finish offer including the supply of non-standard and dual colour foils within 15 working days or less.

 and  are extruded in an ecotech format. This uses a pioneering production process to return pre and post extrusion product and post fabrication waste plus known source post installation pelletized, PVC-U into the extrusion isolating any recyclate from external profile walls.

“There is a growing recognition among developers and architects that PVC-U foils allow them deliver on design and aesthetics and do this, while also achieving far higher levels of thermal efficiency and performance than other comparable materials.

“That’s a very significant plus for PVC-U fabricators who can access reliable supply of foils at an affordable price point”, concluded Cocken.
