Vitro Architectural Glass announced the closure of its local plant located at 4004 Fairview Industrial Drive S.E. The closure, effective June 28, 2024, will result in the layoff of 37 employees.

The decision comes after nearly three decades of operation and is attributed to a decline in demand for the plant's products. The facility specialized in applying energy-efficient coatings to window glass used in building construction, boasting a production capacity exceeding 50 million square feet annually.

Bill Haley, vice president of U.S. operations for Vitro, acknowledged the impact on employees and highlighted efforts to support them during this transition. He mentioned that some may be considered for open positions at other Vitro locations. Additionally, the company is collaborating with local businesses and the state employment department to assist laid-off workers in finding new opportunities.
